PanoTools: CIRCULAR Fisheye lens HISTORY Vladimir Simunic 2003-Apr-26 19:52:33
Hi falks,
surfing the net I found this articles about fisheye lens & history:

1. Fisheye-Nikkor 8mm f/8 Auto
"This is the first Fisheye lens designed by Nikkor for the Nikon F way back
in 1962(!!!) and thus, you can also safely quoted this lens as the world's
first normal production fisheye lens for 35mm photography."
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/6070...
or/fisheyes/rjohnson/8mmfish.htm
It's a CIRCULAR fiseye lens!
BTW, circular fisheye lens produces circular images! ;-)
There have been other fisheye lenses during 1960's.

2. I selected this one because it has 220 deg. field of view:
    6mm f/5.6 Fisheye-Nikkor
"This lens was introduced in 1969 and actually being shown as prototype as
early as 1967."
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/6070...
or/fisheyes/6mm56.htm
Here you can find design drawings too.

3. In this article they even gave US patent numbers (guys from Nippon
Kogaku, Olympus Optical and others obviously done some heavely research and
developement during 60's and 70's):
Fisheye lens designs and their relative performance:

Hope you like this info...
Best Regards,
Vladimir
