Substitute the word additive/complimentary for the word derivative.

I'm no expert/lawyer here either, but opinions abound, so here goes:

I'm pretty sure that the word derivative refers to actual code that was
distributed with the original source. So all of the pano12.dll
modifications are derivative as they are based upon original code or
some variant of it, GPL applies.

Now for the GUI's, they don't derive their code from panotools, they
utilise it's function in the form of the pano12.dll. They make function
calls to the library via the API. This is I am pretty sure the intended
interpretation of the word derivative.

The words derive/derivative and source code are closely linked.

If they derived their functionality by using the actual code from the
pano12.dll as part of the actual program code, different matter.

But as both the pano12.dll and it's source are distributed with these
programs, along with modifications and updates, I don't see where
there's any possible issues.

If things were otherwise the point made earlier that commercial programs
for Linux would be impossible would actually be true.
A program may require an operating system, library or other program to
run, but if it's code is not derived from the operating system or
library, it isn't derivative. It's function would be aid to be reliant
or additive.

Glenn
