</lurk>Heh. I've been lurking here for awhile, and I didn't even know
until today that PanoTools needed money. My donation is en-route via
PayPal.
I'll second the concern that a pay-only forum will decrease
participation substantially. Sure, the SNR will go up, but a lot of
richness will go away. I'm just a lurker, but I never would have
joined if it had been pay-only at the time. Now that I've learned so
much from reading this forum for the last year+, I'm more than happy
to make a donation.
I might add that, re: my starting comment, that asking for money more
frequently will probably help. Ric Ford over at Macintouch.com was
having serious problems awhile back, and after asking for donations
and setting up an Amazon referral account, he appears to be doing OK
now. Heck, I even put a lame "Donate a buck!" link at the bottom of
my own PowerMac 6100 website and I've received several hundred
dollars in donations without really trying. Some folks give a buck;
some give $20-30 just because they feel the resource has been
valuable to them.
I understand the real-world constraints you face in this, but if
there's any way to keep this list open and free the way it's been,
put my vote there :)
