PanoTools: Daul List Details John Spikowski 2006-Jun-26 15:01:48
PanoTools Members,

Over the last few days I have been asked how the dual mailing list works. I
guess I didn't do a very good job of explaining it on the PanoTools-List. I
will try to give a better explanation.

Overview:

The PTML Mailman mailing list server acts an alternative delivery system for
the main Yahoo Groups [PanoTools] SMTP server. When a post is made to
[PanoTools] a copy is forwarded to a admin account on the Mailman server.
This in turn is sent to all the PTML (sub) list subscribers. Needed mail
headers are forwarded to the PTML list. The [PanoTools] message is then
archived for web viewing by both [PanoTools] and PTML list subscribers.

If a [PanoTools] member that is not subscribed to PTML wishes to post to the
sub list, then only PTML members would receive a e-mail and allowing anyone
to read the combined post in the archives.

PTML Subscription Benefits:

1. Receive both lists from one mail list server with the 'ptml-bounces AT
panotools DOT info' being the sender. Set your e-mail rule for this e-mail
address and both lists messages will move to your 'PanoTools' folder.

2. Reply to either list no matter which one you received it from and it will
thread properly in the archives.

[PanoTools] List Member Benefits:

1. Posts on the main list kept focused towards core panorama topics.

2. PTML topics are available for viewing in the combined PTML archives or
choose to ignore the PTML (sub) list altogether.

*** Change your Yahoo Groups account to web only delivery and use the same
[PanoTools] e-mail account for your PTML account. ***

The [PTML] subject line tag has been removed so it's easier to reply back to
the [PanoTools] list without any extra steps.

Issues:

1. Posting from the PTML archives is considered a new post to both lists.
(e-mail replies only)

2. If your not a PTM member and wish to reply to a PTML post then it's
treated as a new post in the PTML archives.

3. PTML members only will not be able to send/reply to [PanoTools]. You must
have a valid Yahoo Groups [PanoTools] account to cross post.

If you have any questions, please use the PTML sub list.

BTW: The PTML list is non-moderated so it's up to you to keep the topics
sane and interesting.

John
