If someone REALLY wants to know, this is a very full and interesting
explanation. But I am afraid that many people's eyes will glaze and
they will fumble for the mouse before reading to the end of it. Some
won't even read the instructions to click and hold down to pan left
and right and zoom, etc., inside a viewer! A losing battle, I'm afraid
in the era of glance and click.

As a matter of visual style I would avoid capitalization. I am not
aware that this term is anything more than a general description, so
I would guess it is not copyrighted.
I think it may be counter-productive to try to show the globe of the
Earth as part of this explanation. Early on, where you are showing how
the image gets spread out at top and bottom it is not unhelpful, but
showing it in a viewer seems more likely to confuse, as you are in
effect showing an image like that which would be apparent looking from
the center of the Earth but with the lateral reversal to make the
continents look the same shape. That's a real mind twister.
