Exactly. For some stupid reason SUN configures the default
Java memory limits to be suited to 1999 hardware. Everybody
now has the equivalent of a 1999 super-computer on their desktop.
People complain about the 20 seconds it takes to fix the low
head room on the default memory situation. I guess it's some
kind of emotional knee jerk reaction instilled in people by years
of Microsoft generated anti-Java propaganda.
I use
JRE 1.6.0_05 C:\Program Files\Java\jre6 -Xms256m -Xmx256m
Rarely any memory problems and I have only a 512meg memory machine.
