:-)
You could begin buying a 35mm 2.8 Zeiss Contax and an adaptor if you
want a cheap proof of what I'm saying.
Or you may buy a 45 2.8 (special and strange pancake I use as camera
cap) 50mm 1.4, a 28mm 2.0 or 2.8, a 135mm 2.8 or the 180mm 2.8
16mm 2.8, 18 f4, 21 f2.8, 35mm 1.4, 85 1.4, 100 f2, 135 f2 are more
esoteric.
200mm are not really worth.
MANY good ones in Leica but you should deal with versions and serial
numbers.
In Canon EF serie 50mm 1.8 is worth, the 1.4 is too expensive and
disappears if paired with the Contax, the 28mm 2.8 is good, the 1.8 is
grinded from a Coke bottle. 35mm no direct experience, but the 1.4 is
reported to be georgous (!?) 20mm 2.8 is as decent as Nikon.
I do own a 40D now, but made extensive tests with friends 1Ds.
I do own 2 Canon zooms for theatre and action purposes (where AF and
zoom are confortable and profitable to get the shots, and image content
and composition is meaning far more than quality itself. 10-22 and
24-85. I got both 2nd hand. First is a bit overpriced as new, 2nd is a
real bargain 2nd hand. Both have reasonable quality over all f-stops and
lenghts, both are the right compromise of weight, dimension and
excursion, and fully satisfy my needs.
In my experience however pro-zooms can get close to primes in quality at
first sight, but never match them at full aperture or in overall
consideration, including price tag.
Well, I can imagine many situations in which a photographer would NEED
pro zooms. None of them does apply to me, at the moment.
