Yes, Hans, the thumbs are on a separated swf. Including them in the
pano's XML would be possible, but not very convenient... using Flash's
timeline and features is way easier. 

Actually by using external SWFs you can make some very complex menus
and UIs that would became really difficult to implement only trough
FPP's XML.
