Hi Yuv,
Deleting mail right after reading an subject I find interesting or I
plan to respond to does not make sense to me.
I would have to go back to the web list to follow up or revise if
something has gotten twisted up in my thoughts.
Brief quoting does make sense if I dive into a subject mid stream and
get "some" context to the subject so I don't loose the thought thread.
There is also danger in quoting and I mean the quoting as a support for
the one I am responding to, but when other people pick up on that, the
true subject often gets distorted and needs to be sorted out afterwards.
That very same fact often distorts the original post. I have very often
read responses to email taken out of "some"context of the original mail
based on quotes.
When the one who has quoted clearly misread the other quote and that
carries away from the original post/remark/question or whatever and
others quote her or him.
Just a thought for you... I coach quite a few people off list who think
this list reads like "Chinese" to them. I don't mean that in a
derogatory way but as a figure of speech and a reference to
incomprehensibilities.
Sometimes I must agree, because the subjects get carried away far and
too fast.
I wish people would take more time to read and actually try to
understand more carefully. It is an international list and that alone
requires that from all involved.
I know that this list is highly regarded as a source of knowledge and
many do a lot of voluntary efforts to keep this list alive, However, I
think there needs to be more enforcement of the rules layed out.
Most people don't read the rules and if there is no enforcement and most
importantly no consequence , then there is simply no need to read the
rules at all.
Cheers, Milko
