Subject:Java: Text in applet tag

Thread:

Hello,

must be a very long time since I last visited my PTViewer based pages
with Java disabled: The text inside the applet tag (pointing users to
the Java download location) doesn't show up any more. Seems as if modern
browsers now ignore anything between <applet> and </applet> if Java is
not enabled or installed.

Does anyone know a convenient way to enable this feature again or
otherwise display some text in this case? I can do it with div layers or
div with overflow:hidden of course, but I suspect that will give weird
results with older browsers. If possible without javascript.
