Of course this is right, and Matt is also absolutely correct in saying that a gigapixel image is simply one with a billion pixels (the clue's in the name). A high resolution image is one that captures a lot of detail, and resolution is not directly related simply to the number of pixels. How often do you zoom in to a gigapixel image really close, only to reveal a blurry mess with no detail at all visible?
