Bob, that's really good news! It's a pity I didn't read this until I got back from town this afternoon, as I was within a stone's throw of the Ginza Apple Store. That is all I need for putting iPad images on the TV, and of course it would work with our present non-3D TV, which has a digital input.

I don't need or want to control the TV with iPhone or iPad. I already control the PC from the iPad and if the PC could be mirrored to the TV, I would have all I want...

Thanks for the feedback.

I was a little disappointed with my visit to the mammoth discount store this afternoon. I didn't want to consider a screen larger than 32 inch, as my desk isn't big enough for me to be able to use it conveniently, and most of the manufacturers have apparently abandoned producing high spec 3D TVs at this size. They have moved upscale to huge screens. I did find one that fitted my needs, but it was over my budget. I'll have to see what's available at the Internet stores.

Roger

PS Can you get your iPad to fill the TV screen? Its native resolution is well below 1,980 x 1,080 isn't it... Unless you have the new iPad, of course

I have used this "dongle" on a current gen iPod and iPad. It lists new at about $40 - but i got a refurb from Best Buy for about $25. My iPad it says that the Adapter is not compatible, but it then goes ahead and works just fine. This allows mirroring the idevice display and sound on the TV.

Samsung may have a similar app for some TVs - you will need to do an Internet search to see if such an app exists for a particular TV. RedEye (thinkflood.com) makes a Mini IR emitter ($50) that plugs into an idevice headphone jack. Other solutions may exist?

I am using it when needed as a display for a mini-PC i5 WIN7 PC (via VGA connector at 1080), intermittent use with a WIN7 laptop PC (HDMI at 900), and intermittent use with both an iPod and an iPad (HDMI). All work very nicely. I use the TV for PC apps and Internet browsing, Netflix and Amazon movies, TV shows from Hulu and networks, and other on-line sources.

At the moment I can use my iPad to control my PC remotely, viewing the PC screen on the iPad's own display. With the HD TV (and sitting in the same room) I could use the iPad to control the TV display via the PC, but a direct link between iPad and TV would be a LOT simpler!
