Shouldn't the group, that the content belongs to, be consulted before decisions such as this are made? Decisions that lead to demands on the group for financial support.
You are saying that the content for the site and funding for the site should be provided by the group members, but that the group is not to be consulted before these decisions are made, and therefore any opportunity for the group to provide alternative suggestions is lost.
You say that you manage the project for the group...you should be consulting the group before making these decisions.

PanoTools is a open source project I manage for the group. (someone has to
do it) The content of the site is public domain and belongs to all. I don't
know what restrictions Bert has put on the website but he did say that if
any commercial advertising is used on the site then his offering will be
removed. (another reason to keep this member own and operated)
