PanoTools: Re: Change or No-Change. gerdsy 2006-Jun-07 18:33:38

[Quote from the poll]:
"Do you want this list to be:

    * a democracy with a team of admins elected by the community for a
time-limited, renewable mandate where going to the bathroom, changing
font color, size, etc. is voted on by the entire group?

    * a dictatorship where Kevin, John or another dictator can ban
people and topics as he pleases without consulting the listmembers?
[End Quote]

By 'democracy', do you really mean a PURE democracy...where EVERY
little decision/detail is voted on by everyone each and every time
(ie. mob rule). And then the admin then blindly carries out the
decision of each vote? I take it then that we will have a poll every
time someone proposes to have someone else banned? Please keep in mind
that many people are too busy to care about voting for every little
issue that may arise.

Or do you mean a 'representative republic'? Where we elect the admin
or group of admins, and they ultimately make all the decisions for us.
Though we are certainly free to give our opinions to influence the
admins (in the meta list). The admins would be open to hearing all
sides of an issue, but he/she/it would ultimately decide. I would
suggest that you add this option to the poll. (I promise not to start
a rebellion if you don't).

(BTW, the USA is NOT a pure democracy. It is a representative
republic, or at least that is how it started out to be.)

As for 'dictatorship', I somehow doubt that most people think of Kevin
as a despot or dictator. A dictatorship applies to the QTVR lists,
since Apple owns the servers and they thus have the right to a
dictatorship. No one really owns the PanoTools list.

Whatever the final decision/vote, you cannot please all of the people
all the time.
