PanoTools: Helicopter panorama revisited. Edward Fink 2005-Jun-16 19:03:05
My client was desperate for at least a demo aerial panorama of
Minneapolis for him to start marketing, so I took another look one of
the aerial panoramas over a lake that I had written off as unstitchable.
After all the hours spent trying to stitch the downtown panoramas, the
lake panorama began to look less intimidating, so I beat it into
submission.

I'm not real happy with it, but then I know about the missing
buildings and duplicate streets - and now I can see many errors in the
sky. But I'm not going to fix it, or at least not yet - I'd rather put
the time and energy into getting ready for the next flight.

My 3rd party wired remote for the D70 just arrived, along with a
25' extension cord, so if I can tape that thing to the camera strongly
enough to withstand the wind, next time I'll try using a monopod to
lower the camera under the landing skids and I'll do the rotation. From
what I've already seen, I'm pretty confident that the pilot will be able
to stay in one place long enough to finish the series as long as he's
not trying to rotate the helicopter around for each shot.
