PanoTools: Flew again, FINALLY nailed a great helicopter panorama!! Edward Fink 2005-Jun-20 06:43:19
I flew again yesterday, and I finally nailed my helicopter
panorama of downtown Minneapolis. The monopod did the trick.

http://www.new-eden.com/?CID=Aerial

It went REALLY well this time. We got pushed down the street a
little by wind gusts a few times, but we moved slowly enough that I was
able to dangle the monopod, rotate, and fire my four shots quickly
enough that I didn't get significant errors. I probably had less errors
than in an average indoor panorama! Seriously - it just AMAZED me it
went so well!!

I'd be dancing on my desk if I had time to clear a space on it.
:)

The sky sucks, but I spent more time fixing the sky than the
ground, and that's just ridiculous, so I'm letting it go for now.

I want to thank everybody who advised me (even if it took a
couple of attempts before it sunk in), and I especially want to thank
everyone who looked at my source images from the first two flights and
tried stitching them. I'd list everyone but so many people helped I'd be
afraid of leaving someone out. Thank you. You guys helped me make the
coolest panorama I've ever done! And something tells me I'll be doing
more of these.

Helping take the sting out of the two failed attempts, this time
it fell within the timeframe for the WWP. Since Minneapolis literally
means water city, and was founded and thrived because of St. Anthony
Falls on the Mississippi River, and is in Minnesota, the Land of 10,000
Lakes, I think my aerial panorama of Minneapolis might make a pretty
cool WWP entry!
