PanoTools: Amount of images used V's Quality and Resolution? Andrew 2006-Feb-27 20:19:50
Hi all.

I currently use a Nikon 8400 with the add on FC-E9 Fisheye Converter
Lens. I make up a full 360 X 180 with 4 images horizontal, 90
degrees each (I like to zoom in slightly for more detail) and stitch
with PTGui 5.

I read posts on this group about the stitching of 18 + images plus Z
& N and was wondering why so many? I understand that 16mm + lens are
being used, but don't understand why? Is there a whole lot more
detail in these final panoramas using so many images compared to the
4 that I use or is it a cost thing for the price of a good fisheye
on a DSLR?

I was just trying to work out a good work flow for panoramas that
are displayed in Quicktime for internet viewing (under 1mb)and
whether it's actually worth it to upgrade my Nikon 8400 for
something like a Nikon D200 or D70, plus an expensive fisheye.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb ass question but I've never
stitched that many pictures together in PTGui 5 and wondered if the
quality was that much better that it would be worth while?

Look forward to any advice

Thanks

Andrew
