PanoTools:
Check your Birth Date!
Eric O'Brien 2006-Jun-06 07:07:54
I could be completely wrong on this but . . .
How many of the Hot Under the Collar! and
Why Should I Need to Ask YOU? people are over 40 years old?
Or over 50?
Are there any women in this argument? [Hey guys: there IS such a
thing as too much testosterone in your blood!]
BELIEVE me, I can still get angry about stuff. !! But:
Good Grief! Pursue your initiatives with more forethought.
Pick your battles with more care.
Commentary:
If you do something "for" others... but you fail first to check and
see if the thing you're doing is really what those people want... Do
not be surprised or affronted to see some resistance. Instead,
expect it... expect resistance and disagreement. If you fail to
accept that resistance gracefully, expect escalation.
Especially expect escalation if you implicitly or explicitly threaten
what some believe to be a shared community resource.
Consider: is your intent ACTUALLY to challenge people? To "draw a
line in the sand?"
That may be a cool strategy to use when you're playing in a fantasy
role playing game [see elsewhere: "Grow Up!,"] ... but in the real
world, yucky things follow from such a stance.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Note that I have carefully avoided Naming Names -- and there
certainly is more than ONE to name. :) . . .
However (Hi Kevin!) if it costs me a month's suspension, so be it.
The Noise to Signal ratio on this list has gotten suffocating as it
is, and a month off might just be a good thing for me.
HEY!
Maybe closing the entire list for a month
wouldn't be a bad idea!
. . . Everybody: Go Take A Break.
Gee, has any list ever done that??
It's --almost-- Summer in the Northern Hemisphere... Just shut the
list down for a couple of months. What a fabulous experiment! Maybe
we all need a holiday (vacation). Maybe all we need is a vacation
(holiday).
