I find that automating "winding" of a lens to change focus in minute
increments to work very well.
I use DSLR Remote PRO, an Autohotkey script, and Helicon Focus to merge the
images. The script winds the focus over a chosen DOF distance. You can have
as many very sharp in focus shots as you wish. For a flower I typically do
about 30 shots over a few inches and then merge them with Helicon. Google
the names for the sites/features and scripts. With the combination of these
tools you can do lots of (creative) stuff.

Sorry, no 5D MkII - only Canon i have is a G9 which could be used with
chdk. Unfortunately this makes no sense quality-wise. :-\
Still i appreciate the hint - thanks! If the images need to be done by
me, i could rent a Canon to get it done...
