PanoTools NG: Panoramic Mural at Grand Canyon N.P. Visitors Center Paul Fretheim 2012-Mar-23 09:36:37
Last summer Grand Canyon National Park commissioned a panoramic image of
the Canyon for a mural in the newly redecorated main visitors center
which I shot last September on Labor Day Weekend. It involved hiking
most of the way down into the Canyon from the South Rim to Indian Garden
Camp where I spent two nights, with the day in between used to get the
image. Temperatures in the Canyon were up to 120 F during the day, so
the hiking was pretty challenging, but I live near Death Valley so I am
familiar with the tricks like pouring water over your head so you can
make it OK.

The installation is nearly complete and looks pretty good. The mural is
18' x 6' and is printed on cloth.

The cutouts and the space along the bottom will be filled with
interpretive signs and touch screen interactive displays. Immediately to
the right will be the entrance to the theater where the new Ken Burns
film on the Grand Canyon will be playing on a continuous loop.

I shot this with a Nikon D200 and an f1.8 50 mm lens with 5 rows of images.
