I can highly recommend it if you don't need an external antenna, it's
really great for hiking and even calculated our (late) Estimated Time of
Arrival, speed, height profile and more on the trip to Venice. It has a
rubber band around it so it fits nicely between the windshield and the
dashboard of my car. The only stupid thing about the geko 301 is that
they put the screen on the lower part and the keys right above the
screen. Just like a standard cell phone but turned around 180 degrees
(keypad on top, screen at the bottom). That way a right handed person
always has his/her thumb across the screen when typing...
Can be submerged in water for a short time so it's definitely rain-proof.

The narrow "streets" in Venice cause the GPS signals to be very weak.
Markus Matern's sense of direction worked better there... ;-)

The geko 301 also has a compass that works when you are not moving.
