Availability of imperial screws in Europe

Hi there,
Is there any bigger difference between "normal" imperial screws and
nuts from a hardware store and the "professional" foto screws? I am
currently in Australia and they have all the imerial stuff here for
cents that cost many many Euros from a photo store.
I never looked for imperial dimensions in Germany's hardware stores.
Does anyone know if they are available there? Or is it a good ieda to
bring some 3/8 and 1/4 material when I get back to Germany? I want to
biuld a panohead when I get back.
