This is an optical illusion. The nearest neighbor interpolator
applied during panning pixelates the image which then appears
sharper (it is no real sharpening). When panning stops, the
bilinear renderer shows the normal image how it should be.
There is no softening or averaging of features, just compare
with the source. The same discussion appears in regular
intervals on the qtvr list, since qtvr uses the same method.
If you want a sharper image, you can sharpen the source
panoramic image.
