PanoTools NG: Horizontal Pole Tutorial Yuval Levy 2007-Aug-14 03:12:44
Dave,

did you receive my comments about the tutorial? I still see my name up
there associated with something that I did not say and that I do not
endorse.

The proper alignment of a horizontally rotated pano is just a particular
case of the more general one of pano alignment.

There are three ways to correct alignment. In order of (my) preference:

- making proper use of vertical and horizontal control points during
optimization (my favorite, though not always possible because it depends
on having vertical features or the horizon handy)

- applying a numeric transform (a quick solution that works best when
the camera's orientation was set perfectly level - not the case of a
hand held wobbling pole)

- manually fiddling the panorama editor. the worst solution as it
suffers of the lack of precision of mouse movements

I only quickly suggested you can use the numeric transform as a quick
fix. <http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/PanoToolsNG/message/11959>

I did not suggest the rest of the stuff that is written in the same
sentence that is attributed to me.

To be perfectly honest, I find
<http://360texas.com/tips/hpolepano/index.htm> more confusing than
helpful. Sorry for the blunt but honest remark.

Yuv
