It is an excellent idea to make that info publicly available so that the encryption strength can be seriously challenged.

Security by obscurity is no protection.

The strongest encryption systems are those for which the code/algorythm is publicly available (such as PGP). If a hacker can not break a key when knowing the code, then you know that the key is fairly safe. It is inevitable however that with enough ressources (processing time) even the strongest key can be broken with a brute force attack.

If we keep the safe hidden, nobody will test the door so we will not know whether it is solid or not. But if the door is known and publicly accessible, if it still holds it is an excellent door. Only have to hide the key :-)
