The book: Photographic Multishot Techniques (Rocky Nook publishing) 
clearly advises to use macro focusing rail for precision focusing.  
Stitching in Photoshop, Combine ZM, Photo Acute or best in Helicon 
Focus.  Haven't try it yet, only yesterday I have bought Manfrotto 3419 
rail.  Still missing the software
