So, if i sum up correctly, the intention to move the camera isn't such a 
bad idea at all.  :-)

@Pat:
I have used a Novoflex macro rail which has a geared slider and spacing 
marks. That's much, much easier to handle than turning a less exact 
focus ring. At least until the firmware of a DSLR could automate the 
process of stacking the focus. ;-)
