Hi Peter,

as far as I know, there are 3! Versions of the Sigma 8mm out there:
#1 8mm MF (old, rare?, different design with internal filter holder)
#2 8mm EF (common, probaly the one you own)
#3 8mm EX DG (pretty new, probably new coating)

Image quality between #1 and #2 should be very similar - even if the 
design is different. I read somewhere, that one is slightly better open 
and the other is sligthly better closed?!?!!?!
I personally own a #1 (thanks Jook :-) ).
I don't know, if someone tried out #3 so far, because it is very new. 
Things that I would like to see improved would be
- less vignetting
- more sharpness at the edges
but I don't really expect that. Maybe it's more resistant against flares?!?!

Somebody around here who tried the new Sigma 8mm and cann tell more than 
mystics?
