PanoTools NG: Sigma 8 F3.5 and its sharpness udedomenico 2007-May-15 13:49:27
Days ago I have posted the following pic with regards to the right
rolling to gain enough FOV to cover 360 with 4 shots:

As far as I am concerned I have resolved that bit thanks to your tips
and instructions.

Now I am looking at the same pic to investigate a second issue which
is very important and it is unresolved to me: the "new" sigma 8 F3.5
and its sharpness.

Maybe it's just because I am used to the wonderful Nikkor 10.5 but the
sharpness I have achieved so far with the sigma 8 F3.5 is pretty poor.

The above link should show that quite clearly. It's not sharp.

I have done few tests today with different aperture and focus setups:

- FULL Automatic
- Manual Aperture: 11 focus: ~5
- Manual Aprture: 11 focus: ~ between 1 and infinite
- Manual Aprture: 7.1 focus: ~ between 1 and infinite

Results?

I honestly cannot see the difference...

If you want I can post a link with them.

Now question is.

I checked results in JPG.

OK I guess things can get better if you extract the pic from the RAW
file and get rid of some chromatic aberration....

but is that all?

I do not believe that would make a remarkable difference from the
sharpness perspective.

On the other hand I have seen sharp pics made with the sigma.

Am I missing anything on the lens setup or it's just a lot of editing
work to be done to get as close as possible to nikkor sharpness?

I.
